This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.509

विघुष्टशब्दो भवति विदु प्रशंस्यः शुद्धं विशुद्धं लभे आत्मभावं ।
उद्वीक्षणीयो भवति जनस्य देवान नागान गुरु पूजितश् च ॥ ५०९ ॥

vighuṣṭaśabdo bhavati vidu praśaṃsyaḥ śuddhaṃ viśuddhaṃ labhe ātmabhāvaṃ |
udvīkṣaṇīyo bhavati janasya devāna nāgāna guru pūjitaś ca || 509 ||

He gains great reputation and becomes wise and laudable. He shall win a clean and pure body. He becomes an object of men’s high regard, and revered of devas and Nagas. (509)
