by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.481

यश् च प्रलुज्जन्तं सद्धर्मं लोकनाथेन दर्शितं ।
एकरात्रिंदिवं चापि धारये पुण्यं विशिष्यति ॥ ४८१ ॥

yaś ca pralujjantaṃ saddharmaṃ lokanāthena darśitaṃ |
ekarātriṃdivaṃ cāpi dhāraye puṇyaṃ viśiṣyati || 481 ||

And whoso will support the true dharma preached by the Saviour of the world, when it is breaking up, for even one night or day, will be distinguished in merit. (481)
