Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.468

उत्पीडां बुद्धपुत्राणां यः करोति अविद्दसु ।
न तस्य सुलभो जातु भेष्यते मानुषो भवः ॥ ४६८ ॥

utpīḍāṃ buddhaputrāṇāṃ yaḥ karoti aviddasu |
na tasya sulabho jātu bheṣyate mānuṣo bhavaḥ || 468 ||

Verily, it is not easy for him who, in his folly, maltreats the sons of Buddha, to recover birth as a human. (468)
