by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.441

वर्जेति पापकां धर्मा ये आर्येहि विवर्जिता ।
चरति कुशलां धर्मां ये बुद्धेहि प्रशंसिता ॥ ४४१ ॥

varjeti pāpakāṃ dharmā ye āryehi vivarjitā |
carati kuśalāṃ dharmāṃ ye buddhehi praśaṃsitā || 441 ||

He renounces those evil states which are renounced by Aryans, and ensues the good states which are commended by Buddhas. (441)
