by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.372

शीलवां विचरे लोके अप्रमत्तो प्रधानवां ।
न तस्य दुल्लभो भोति बुद्धघोषो मनोरमो ॥ ३७२ ॥

śīlavāṃ vicare loke apramatto pradhānavāṃ |
na tasya dullabho bhoti buddhaghoṣo manoramo || 372 ||

The moral man will fare through the world alert and energetic; it is not hard for him to get to hear the pleasing sound of the Buddha’s name. (372)
