Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.370

शीलेन परिशुद्धेन दिव्यं चक्षु विशुध्यति ।
न तस्यागमनं भोति बुद्धक्षेत्रेषु सर्वशो ॥ ३७० ॥

śīlena pariśuddhena divyaṃ cakṣu viśudhyati |
na tasyāgamanaṃ bhoti buddhakṣetreṣu sarvaśo || 370 ||

Through his pure morality his deva-eye is made clear. No place anywhere in the Buddha-fields is beyond his range of vision. (370)
