This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.315

वामदक्षिणपार्श्वेहि न कश्चिल् लोकनायकं ।
संजानति महावीरं सर्वे पश्यन्ति नायकं ॥ ३१५ ॥

vāmadakṣiṇapārśvehi na kaścil lokanāyakaṃ |
saṃjānati mahāvīraṃ sarve paśyanti nāyakaṃ || 315 ||

No one saw the Guide of the world from the left or from the right, but all saw the great Hero, straight in front. (315)
