This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.224

अन्ये ग्रहेत्वा महदग्निस्कन्धां प्रदीप्तशीर्षा विकृतस्वभावा ।
क्षुरप्रचारी च विभग्ननासा मारस्य सैन्या स्थित बोधिमूले ॥ २२४ ॥

anye grahetvā mahadagniskandhāṃ pradīptaśīrṣā vikṛtasvabhāvā |
kṣurapracārī ca vibhagnanāsā mārasya sainyā sthita bodhimūle || 224 ||

Others carried huge firebrands in their hands; their heads were all lit up, their forms distorted, appearing flat and broken of nose. Mara’s army stood at the foot of the bodhi tree. (224)
