This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.
Verse 64.176
सुमेरुमूर्ध्ना यदि नरो आरुहित्वा आत्मानं मुंचेय महीतलस्मिं ।
लभेय सौख्यं शरीरे पतित्वा न बोधिसत्वे अहितानि कृत्वा ॥ १७६ ॥
sumerumūrdhnā yadi naro āruhitvā ātmānaṃ muṃceya mahītalasmiṃ |
labheya saukhyaṃ śarīre patitvā na bodhisatve ahitāni kṛtvā || 176 ||
“It would be easier for a man who climbed to the summit of Sumeru and thence threw himself down to the ground, to ensure safety for his body when he fell, than it would be for one who showed unkindliness to the Bodhisattva. (176)
