by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.99

संगीति मह्यं स्थिता अप्सराणां मा खु च्यविष्यं इतो अद्य स्थानात् ॥ ९९ ॥

śīrṣato mahyaṃ makuṭo pralupto śubhā ca ābhā vigatā mamādya |

“The diadem has been torn from my head, and to-day my fair radiance is departed. My Apsarases have stayed their chorus. May I not have to leave this place to-day. (99)
