This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.96

मा शोच पारगे त्वं न पि रुण्डशोचितेन कोचार्थो ।
जातेन जीवलोके सर्वेण अवश्यं मर्तव्यं ॥ ९६ ॥

mā śoca pārage tvaṃ na pi ruṇḍaśocitena kocārtho |
jātena jīvaloke sarveṇa avaśyaṃ martavyaṃ || 96 ||

“Grieve not, Paraga” (said her husband). “You will gain nought by weeping and grieving. (96)
