This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.93

वनदेवता पि सत्ये न किंचिद् अर्थो यममनुष्यभूतेषु ।
पश्यन्ति किंचित् श्यामो स्तोकं पि न वारितो वत्सो ॥ ९३ ॥

vanadevatā pi satye na kiṃcid artho yamamanuṣyabhūteṣu |
paśyanti kiṃcit śyāmo stokaṃ pi na vārito vatso || 93 ||

“The devas of the forest were truly of no help, since, when they saw Shyama among the demons, a tiny body though he was, they did not protect the darling. (93)
