This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.83

हा दयित स्याम सुन्दर त्वया विनाभावसम्भवो पूर्वं ।
मह्यं हृदयं दहिष्यति शुष्कं तृणकाष्ठम् इव अग्नि ॥ ८३ ॥

hā dayita syāma sundara tvayā vinābhāvasambhavo pūrvaṃ |
mahyaṃ hṛdayaṃ dahiṣyati śuṣkaṃ tṛṇakāṣṭham iva agni || 83 ||

“Ah, my dear and lovely Shyama,” she cried, “association with another, because I have lost you, will sooner consume my heart as the fire burns dry grass and wood. (83)
