This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.80

सो अवच एषो अर्थो नयेन जातो यदा मया पापं ।
अविजानन्तेन कृतं एवं क्षम्यन्तु मे देवा ॥ ८० ॥

so avaca eṣo artho nayena jāto yadā mayā pāpaṃ |
avijānantena kṛtaṃ evaṃ kṣamyantu me devā || 80 ||

He replied, “This affair was due to indiscretion. Since I committed this misdeed unwittingly, so, good people, forgive me. (80)
