This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.46

अभिवादनं पुनः पुन भणेसि त्वं मातरं च पितरं च ।
कालगतो वो पुत्रो सो च वो अभिवादनं आह ॥ ४६ ॥

abhivādanaṃ punaḥ puna bhaṇesi tvaṃ mātaraṃ ca pitaraṃ ca |
kālagato vo putro so ca vo abhivādanaṃ āha || 46 ||

“Greet my mother and my father once more for me, and say to them, ‘Your son is dead and has sent you this greeting. (46)
