This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.38

निरयं अहं पतिष्यं अदूषकं ऋषिपुत्रं हनित्वान ।
एतादृशा हि हत्वा नरकेषु न मुच्यितुं शक्या ॥ ३८ ॥

nirayaṃ ahaṃ patiṣyaṃ adūṣakaṃ ṛṣiputraṃ hanitvāna |
etādṛśā hi hatvā narakeṣu na mucyituṃ śakyā || 38 ||

“I shall fall down to hell for that I have slain a harmless seer. For those who have slain such men cannot evade the hells. (38)
