This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.32

यं च परिदेवन्तो भणेसि एकेषुणा हता त्रीणि ।
वियाहर ब्रह्मचारी एतं मे अर्थम् आख्याहि ॥ ३२ ॥

yaṃ ca paridevanto bhaṇesi ekeṣuṇā hatā trīṇi |
viyāhara brahmacārī etaṃ me artham ākhyāhi || 32 ||

“And as for your lamenting that three people were shot by this one arrow, explain this to me, O holy man, tell me the meaning of it.” (32)
