This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.18

मान्सरुधिरार्थिनो पि मृगराजा अतिबला च मातंगा ।
मार्गाद् अपक्रमन्तु ते मा च ते त्रासेन्तु भूतानि ॥ १८ ॥

mānsarudhirārthino pi mṛgarājā atibalā ca mātaṃgā |
mārgād apakramantu te mā ca te trāsentu bhūtāni || 18 ||

“Let the king of beasts and the mighty elephant stray in quest of gory flesh, but do not let creatures be terrified of you.” (18)
