This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.13

तस्यासि समादानं प्रियेषु मातापितॄषु दयितेषु ।
न खु मे प्रपञ्चयितव्यं अन्धेषु परप्रणेय्येषु ॥ १३ ॥

na khu me prapañcayitavyaṃ andheṣu parapraṇeyyeṣu || 13 ||

And this was a resolve he made for the sake of his dear and beloved parents, saying, “Verily, I must not be remiss, for they are blind and have to be led by others. (13)
