by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.10

स्वयम् एव बोधिसत्वो किं कुशलं गवेषयं समादियति ।
शुक्लं कुशलं धर्मं तं च समादाय वर्तेति ॥ १० ॥

svayam eva bodhisatvo kiṃ kuśalaṃ gaveṣayaṃ samādiyati |
śuklaṃ kuśalaṃ dharmaṃ taṃ ca samādāya varteti || 10 ||

The merit which a Bodhisattva pursues and attains, that was the pure meritorious dharma in conformity with which he lived. (10)
