Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 52.119

एकेकसत्वमोक्षणे यदि कल्पम् असंख्यं सर्वसत्वानां ।
दुःखम् अनुभोमि तारेष्यं सर्वसत्वानां व्यवसितम् इदं ॥ ११९ ॥

ekekasatvamokṣaṇe yadi kalpam asaṃkhyaṃ sarvasatvānāṃ |
duḥkham anubhomi tāreṣyaṃ sarvasatvānāṃ vyavasitam idaṃ || 119 ||

[For he said], “Even though I have to endure the ills of all men for a measureless kalpa, while seeking the release of them one by one, I shall lead across all beings. On this I am resolved.” (119)
