This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 52.73

द्वीपीव सुतनुं वित्तं व्याघ्रं वा गिरिसानुगं ।
सिंहं वा गिरिदुर्गस्मिं महासिंहो मृगाधिपः ॥ ७३ ॥

dvīpīva sutanuṃ vittaṃ vyāghraṃ vā girisānugaṃ |
siṃhaṃ vā giridurgasmiṃ mahāsiṃho mṛgādhipaḥ || 73 ||

“He is lithe as a panther, bright as a tiger on a mountain ridge, like a lion in a mountain fastness—a mighty lion, king of beasts, is he.” (73)
