This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 52.43

तत्र वृद्धं महाप्राज्ञं तापसन्तपतां वरं ।
वशिष्ठं नाम गोत्रेण ददर्श च जगाम च ॥ ४३ ॥

tatra vṛddhaṃ mahāprājñaṃ tāpasantapatāṃ varaṃ |
vaśiṣṭhaṃ nāma gotreṇa dadarśa ca jagāma ca || 43 ||

There he saw the aged, the greatly wise, the best of seers, named Vasishtha after his clan, and went up to him. (43)
