This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 49.51

अपि नरकं प्रपतेयं विषं च खादेतुं भोजनं भुंजे ।
न तु पुनर् इह प्रविश्य अप्राप्य जरामरणपारं ॥ ५१ ॥

api narakaṃ prapateyaṃ viṣaṃ ca khādetuṃ bhojanaṃ bhuṃje |
na tu punar iha praviśya aprāpya jarāmaraṇapāraṃ || 51 ||

Though I were to fall into hell and get poisoned food to eat, I shall not again enter this city before I have won beyond old age and death. (51)
