Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 49.48

सम्यग्वितर्कय बोधिसत्वैवं वितर्कयन्ति विद्वांसः ।
उत्पन्न ते कुशलस्य मूला यथा वितर्कयसि सप्रज्ञ ॥ ४८ ॥

samyagvitarkaya bodhisatvaivaṃ vitarkayanti vidvāṃsaḥ |
utpanna te kuśalasya mūlā yathā vitarkayasi saprajña || 48 ||

Reflect perfectly, O Bodhisattva, for so do the knowing ones reflect. In the way thou dost reflect, O wise man, it is clear that you have the root of goodness. (48)
