This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 48.9

अत्यन्तशुद्धचरणं कुशलोपपेतं एषो नरर्षभ गतीमतिनां विधिज्ञः ।
हित्वा जनं पुरुषसिंहवरो पुरो च निर्गम्य ते अभिलषे पुरुषर्षभत्वं ॥ ९ ॥

atyantaśuddhacaraṇaṃ kuśalopapetaṃ eṣo nararṣabha gatīmatināṃ vidhijñaḥ |
hitvā janaṃ puruṣasiṃhavaro puro ca nirgamya te abhilaṣe puruṣarṣabhatvaṃ || 9 ||

“O valiant king, he who is of exceeding pure conduct, replete with goodness, intelligent in his ways, and devout, a noble lion-man renouncing his folk and leaving his city, desires the state of a bull-man. (9)
