This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 48.1

पश्यामि पुत्र सुपिने तरनावगाढं अभ्युत्थितं गजवरं मणिजालच्छन्नं ।
मध्ये पुरस्य अध्वनावस्थितो च रात्रौ निर्धावते पुरवरा अभिकम्पमानः ॥ १ ॥

paśyāmi putra supine taranāvagāḍhaṃ abhyutthitaṃ gajavaraṃ maṇijālacchannaṃ |
madhye purasya adhvanāvasthito ca rātrau nirdhāvate puravarā abhikampamānaḥ || 1 ||

My son, in a dream I saw an elephant emerging from a bath of precious stones, all covered in a net-work of jewels. I n the middle of the city it stayed in its course, and then, trembling ran out of the city through the night. (1)
