This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

सा अद्दसासि माणवम् उत्सहन्तं उत्सिञ्चितुं क्षपयितुं च सागरं ॥ ५ ॥

Then a female deva emerged in terror from the sea and looked about her in all directions. And she saw a young brahman daring to drain and exhaust the ocean. (5)
