This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 45.2

शृणोथ वीर्यं पुरुषोत्तमस्य बलं च स्थामं च पराक्रमं च ।
यं माणवो पि पुरिमासु जातिषु एतस्य अर्थे अवतीर्णो सागरं ॥ २ ॥

śṛṇotha vīryaṃ puruṣottamasya balaṃ ca sthāmaṃ ca parākramaṃ ca |
yaṃ māṇavo pi purimāsu jātiṣu etasya arthe avatīrṇo sāgaraṃ || 2 ||

List to the tale of the energy of the Best of Men, his power, his fortitude, and his enterprise, when as a brahman youth in a former life he crossed the sea to win this prize. (2)
