This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 40.11

अनुपूर्वसुजातस्कन्धो सिंहो पर्वतगोचरो हमस्मि ।
मृगसंघा त्रसन्ति सर्वे त्वं भद्रे मम भर्तारं वरेहि ॥ ११ ॥

anupūrvasujātaskandho siṃho parvatagocaro hamasmi |
mṛgasaṃghā trasanti sarve tvaṃ bhadre mama bhartāraṃ varehi || 11 ||

“I am a lion with regular well-formed shoulders, and I range the mountains at will. All herds of beasts stand in awe of me. So, lady, choose me for mate.” (11)
