This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.74

श्रद्धा अनित्या पुन देवसारथि आशा विसंवादिकसंयता मम ॥ ७४ ॥

śraddhā anityā puna devasārathi āśā visaṃvādikasaṃyatā mama || 74 ||

[Koshika replied... ] “O Matali, Glory appears to me a partial jade. Faith again, O charioteer of the devas, is fickle, and Hope, it seems to me, is prone to break her word. (74)
