Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.66

तं संप्रति गृह्याण प्रीतमानसा इत्यब्रवी आत्तमना जटाधरं ।
कृता त्वया कौशिक मह्य पूजा गच्छामि दानि त्रिदशान सेवितुं ॥ ६६ ॥

taṃ saṃprati gṛhyāṇa prītamānasā ityabravī āttamanā jaṭādharaṃ |
kṛtā tvayā kauśika mahya pūjā gacchāmi dāni tridaśāna sevituṃ || 66 ||

She joyfully took the gift at once and in elation addressed the matted-haired recluse, saying, “O Koshika, great is the honour which you have shown me. Now I go to wait on the Three-and-Thirty.” (66)
