by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.65

tasyetavāye kuṣicāya kauśikaḥ jayettamānaye jaṭāyantaṃ dhanena |
nehi pātrehi sudhāṃ svayaṃ dade sā adhyabhāṣi tvaritā mahāmuniṃ || 65 ||

And as she sat on the couch of kusha grass, Koshika, in matted hair and antelope’s skin, with his own hands brought her what she wished, the ambrosia on freshly gathered leaves, and gladly the great seer presented her with the ambrosia. (65)
