by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.49

sā me va santike api ca vadyase vijāne mūḍhāsi dhūrtānuvartinī |
na edṛśī arhati āsanodakaṃ kuto sudhāṃ gaccha na me tvaṃ rocasi || 49 ||

“I tell it to thy face. I know thee for a fool and a gambler. Such an one as thou does not deserve a seat or water, not to speak of ambrosia. Begone, thou dost not please me.” (49)
