This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.35

अहं महेन्द्रेण महर्षि प्रेषितो सुधाहरिं त्वां त्वरितं उपागमि ।
जानाहि मां मातलिं देवसारथिं भुंजाहिमां कांक्षिषु भोगमुत्तमं ॥ ३५ ॥

ahaṃ mahendreṇa maharṣi preṣito sudhāhariṃ tvāṃ tvaritaṃ upāgami |
jānāhi māṃ mātaliṃ devasārathiṃ bhuṃjāhimāṃ kāṃkṣiṣu bhogamuttamaṃ || 35 ||

“Mighty seer, I was sent by great Indra. I came in haste to bring you this ambrosial food. Know that I am Matali, the charioteer of the devas. Partake of this, the choicest food that one could wish. (35)
