Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 35.23

तस्यापि एवं दृष्ट्वा जातो दिशासु बोधिय कौलीनो ।
तत्रैष बुद्धशब्दो चरति द्रक्ष्यामि तं काले ॥ २३ ॥

tasyāpi evaṃ dṛṣṭvā jāto diśāsu bodhiya kaulīno |
tatraiṣa buddhaśabdo carati drakṣyāmi taṃ kāle || 23 ||

And when he had seen all this, the rumour of enlightenment arose in the regions, and the sound of the Buddha’s name went abroad. (And he said) “I shall see him in due time.” (23)
