This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 35.4

सो वसति काननमूर्ध्नि मूलफलम् अकृष्टं रुच्छां वृत्तिं ।
शिष्येण नालकेन सार्धं अन्येहि च बहूहि ॥ ४ ॥

so vasati kānanamūrdhni mūlaphalam akṛṣṭaṃ rucchāṃ vṛttiṃ |
śiṣyeṇa nālakena sārdhaṃ anyehi ca bahūhi || 4 ||

He abode at the head of a forest glade, living austerely on roots and wild fruits, along with his pupil Nalaka and many others. (4)
