This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 35.1

नीवरणानि विजहित्व एकाग्रेण मनसा मम शृणोथ ।
यथा असितो परिदेवे उत्पन्ने शाकियकुमारे ॥ १ ॥

nīvaraṇāni vijahitva ekāgreṇa manasā mama śṛṇotha |
yathā asito parideve utpanne śākiyakumāre || 1 ||

Put aside all hindrances, and calmly listen to me as I relate how Asita the seer wept at the birth of the Shakyan child. (1)
