by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 34.188

आलोकयित्व दूरा महेश्वरा पराक्रमं दशबलस्य ।
मूर्धनि विगलितमकुटा निपतन्ति महीतले हृष्टाः ॥ १८८ ॥

ālokayitva dūrā maheśvarā parākramaṃ daśabalasya |
mūrdhani vigalitamakuṭā nipatanti mahītale hṛṣṭāḥ || 188 ||

When the Maheshvaras observed from a distance the dignified approach of the Dashabala, they were thrilled with joy and bowed their heads crowned with glittering diadems to the ground. (188)
