This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 34.175

किंकारणं न एदृशा प्राकृतपुरुषाण भोन्ति आकाराः ।
न पि मानुषाण ईदृशी ऋद्धि भवति यादृशीं भणसि ॥ १७५ ॥

kiṃkāraṇaṃ na edṛśā prākṛtapuruṣāṇa bhonti ākārāḥ |
na pi mānuṣāṇa īdṛśī ṛddhi bhavati yādṛśīṃ bhaṇasi || 175 ||

“And why? Because such are not the forms of ordinary men. Humans do not have such majesty as you say these persons have.” (175)
