This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 34.165

शुद्धोदनं उपगम्य ब्रूवीहि इमे लक्षणगुणविधिज्ञा ।
तिष्ठन्ति अष्ट सहस्रा प्रविशेन्सुः यदि अनुमतन् ते ॥ १६५ ॥

śuddhodanaṃ upagamya brūvīhi ime lakṣaṇaguṇavidhijñā |
tiṣṭhanti aṣṭa sahasrā praviśensuḥ yadi anumatan te || 165 ||

“Go in to Shuddhodana and say to him, ‘Here are eight-thousand men who know the rules and significance of signs, and they would enter, if it is your pleasure (165)
