Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 30.12

तं निर्वृतं ध्यायेत्वान स्तूपं कारेसि ग्रामिको ।
नृत्यवादितगीतेन पूजां कारेसि महर्षिणो ॥ १२ ॥

taṃ nirvṛtaṃ dhyāyetvāna stūpaṃ kāresi grāmiko |
nṛtyavāditagītena pūjāṃ kāresi maharṣiṇo || 12 ||

And when he had thus passed away, the overseer cremated him, erected a tope, and honoured the great seer with dance and music and song. (12)
