This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 30.6

महाजनो समागत्वा इस्त्रियो पुरुषा पि च ।
ग्रामिकं उपसंक्रम्य किं करोम अविधाविधं ति ॥ ६ ॥

mahājano samāgatvā istriyo puruṣā pi ca |
grāmikaṃ upasaṃkramya kiṃ karoma avidhāvidhaṃ ti || 6 ||

When a great crowd, both men and women, had come together, they approached the village overseer and asked him, “What is the matter? What means this cry of avidha! avidha! (6)
