by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 29.36

अभिवादनांजलिकर्मणो च प्रत्युत्थान-म्-आसनतां ततो च ।
वैयावृत्यं धर्मनुमोदनां च महाजनो प्रीतो करोति पुण्यं ॥ ३६ ॥

abhivādanāṃjalikarmaṇo ca pratyutthāna-m-āsanatāṃ tato ca |
vaiyāvṛtyaṃ dharmanumodanāṃ ca mahājano prīto karoti puṇyaṃ || 36 ||

Adoring him with their joined hands raised in salutation, they respectfully rise up from their seats. They render him service, and give thanks for dharma. So does the great multitude joyfully perform its deed of merit. (36)
