This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 28.5

यो ज्ञातिमध्ये च सहायमध्ये शीलेन प्रज्ञाय वशीतया च ।
अभिरोचति सर्वं हि नित्यकालं सो ज्ञातिमध्ये रक्षितो स्वस्त्ययनं तद् आहुः ॥ ५ ॥

yo jñātimadhye ca sahāyamadhye śīlena prajñāya vaśītayā ca |
abhirocati sarvaṃ hi nityakālaṃ so jñātimadhye rakṣito svastyayanaṃ tad āhuḥ || 5 ||

He verily is a blessing to his kinsfolk who among his people and friends constantly shines in virtue, wisdom and self-control. (5)
