This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 27.71

क्षिप्रं तु नश्यते राज्यं प्रतिराजेहि पार्थिव ।
विरक्ता प्रकृतियो च अन्यं मार्गन्ति स्वामिकं ॥ ७१ ॥

kṣipraṃ tu naśyate rājyaṃ pratirājehi pārthiva |
viraktā prakṛtiyo ca anyaṃ mārganti svāmikaṃ || 71 ||

(281 ) “Soon, O king, such a realm is destroyed by rival kings. The subjects become alienated and seek another lord. (71)
