This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 27.25

गुह्यम् अर्थं च धारेहि सदा वारेहि पार्थिव ।
भिन्नमन्त्रा हि राजेन्द्रा अनुभोन्ति व्यसनं बहुं ॥ २५ ॥

guhyam arthaṃ ca dhārehi sadā vārehi pārthiva |
bhinnamantrā hi rājendrā anubhonti vyasanaṃ bahuṃ || 25 ||

“Keep your counsel secret, and always conceal it, O king. For princes who reveal their counsel come to great harm. (25)
