This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 27.22

वैरबन्धं च मा कुर्या पाटिराजेहि पार्थिव ।
यो वैरी हि महीपाल वैरम् अर्पेन्ति वैरिणः ॥ २२ ॥

vairabandhaṃ ca mā kuryā pāṭirājehi pārthiva |
yo vairī hi mahīpāla vairam arpenti vairiṇaḥ || 22 ||

“O king, do not foster hostility towards neighbouring kings. Whosoever hates, will be repaid with hatred by his foes. (22)
