Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 26.21

सर्वे सुवर्णवर्णा सर्वे द्वात्रिंशलक्षणसमंगी ।
सर्वे कनकगिरिनिभाः सर्वे वरवारणगतीकाः ॥ २१ ॥

sarve suvarṇavarṇā sarve dvātriṃśalakṣaṇasamaṃgī |
sarve kanakagirinibhāḥ sarve varavāraṇagatīkāḥ || 21 ||

All are of golden colour, all endowed with the thirty-two marks of excellence, all are like a mass of gold, all move like stately elephants. (21)
