This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 23.63

कृच्छ्रो मनुष्यलाभो विवर्जना च असाररूपवनात् ।
बुद्धान च उत्पादो श्रद्धा च भवेय च निर्वृतिः ॥ ६३ ॥

kṛcchro manuṣyalābho vivarjanā ca asārarūpavanāt |
buddhāna ca utpādo śraddhā ca bhaveya ca nirvṛtiḥ || 63 ||

“Hard is it for men to win deliverance from the jungles of unreal forms. But Buddhas appear, and then will come faith and release.” (63)
